If you want to put more passion into your relationship, tune into Lifetime’s The Balancing Act, weekdays 7-8 Am ET/PT starting in August.

The show is based on four women who meet while shopping at Bloomingdales for lingerie and break out into song and dance about night sweats, forgetfulness, pesky chin hairs, and changes in sexual desire and arousal. Menopause The Musical features 25 songs, all of which are parodies of the classics from the 60s and 70s such as “Stayin’ Awake/Night Sweating.”  Some women claim that taking their husbands to the show helped them to gain an understanding of what we as women go through – truly remarkable.

In general, the most jarring aspect of menopause for women is the lack of control, and the feeling that someone, or something is taking over their body. And, even we admit it’s pretty hard to focus on sexual satisfaction when you are sweating through every shirt you own (towel please). Besides arming yourself with some much needed comic relief (enter MTM stage left) there are a couple of things you can do to help alleviate the symptoms and still manage to enjoy a satisfying sex life.

• Exercise: Studies show exercise helps women deal with menopausal symptoms.

• In Rage is not In Vogue: Meditate. Take 15 minutes to relax and unwind; keeping your stress level down will help you to better tolerate your symptoms.

• Talk to your partner: Let your partner know what you are going through. Regular sex helps reduce stress, and a feeling of serenity is something you need now more than ever. If you are experiencing vaginal dryness, try coupling a lubricant with an arousal oil like Zestra.

On Monday, we had the opportunity to sponsor a chat about relationships, body image, and sex on TheMotherhood.com. We were literally ROFL from all the stories, saggy boob comments, and candid remarks like “we’re not ‘doing it’ as often as the rest of parents.” As evidenced by the enthusiastic participation in the live chat, women are itching to talk about sex – and sexual desire – with a group whom they trust and admire (lead by the almighty Mominatrix). And, it’s comforting to learn on chats like this that you’re not alone, especially if it feels like your sex drive suddenly went on vacation. There are many other women out there, with children, husbands and a whirlwind of responsibilities, who have at one time or another experienced challenges with sexual desire, through no fault of their own.

Fortunately, the topic of women’s sexual desire is finally getting some much deserved media attention. Today, the FDA is reviewing Flibanserin, a pill that was originally tested as an anti-depressant and later found to have an impact on female sexual desire. We wrote about Flibanserin earlier this year because any contribution to the conversation about female sexual satisfaction is fabulous from our point of view.

Because, whether you want to stick with a natural, non-hormonal product like Zestra® or to talk to your doctor about a new medicine in development, we can’t help but get excited about women having their voices heard. In your 80s, you dress for the bathroom” in reference to her wardrobe of track suits.

White, now 88, has always (at least to us) been on the fore-front of TV shows that tackle sexual satisfaction. She added spice to seemly sweet, secretly sex-crazed Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and dazzled us as goofy Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. As perhaps the original Sex and the City, The Golden Girls brought to life the fact that all women – no matter what their age – deserve to enjoy sex, addressing it in a way that was funny, ridiculous and absolutely timeless. Whether they were crashing high-school reunions, getting engaged, or dealing with sensitive issues like death and divorce, Betty White and the GG cast always brought a smile to your face.

So, as Betty and the sizzling crew of Hot in Cleveland gear up for episode two, we hope they’ll keep the conversation about sexual satisfaction going. With those big track suit pockets, White’s character Elka could certainly keep a stockpile of Zestra tucked away. Drew Carey summed it up best: Cleveland Rocks.
